On April 16, 2025, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) reaffirmed its commitment to sustainable development during the International Forum “SCO 2030: Path to Sustainable Development” held in Omsk, Russian Federation. SCO Secretary-General Nurlan Yermekbayev highlighted the organization’s focus on environmental protection, green economy, climate change mitigation, biodiversity preservation, rational use of natural resources, poverty reduction, healthcare improvement, and enhancing the quality of life.

The forum underscored the collective determination of SCO member states to strengthen cooperation in sustainable development, following the declaration of 2025 as the Year of Sustainable Development during the 2024 Astana summit.
Mr. Tribhuvan Darbari, Chairman of the SCO Business Council (India), emphasized India’s proactive role in this initiative. He stated, “India is committed to collaborating with SCO member states to promote sustainable development through innovation, technology transfer, and inclusive growth strategies.” Mr. Darbari highlighted India’s advancements in renewable energy, digital infrastructure, and sustainable agriculture as key areas for cooperation.
The forum served as a platform for member states to exchange experiences and develop effective solutions for sustainable development, aligning with the SCO’s broader goals of regional stability and prosperity. India’s active participation reflects its dedication to contributing to the SCO’s vision for a sustainable and inclusive future.
