The news that DAC has approved procurement of defence equipment worth Rs 8722 crore is a major boost to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s clarion call of ‘Aatmnirbhar Bharat’ and ‘Make In India’. According to Mr. Tribhuvan Darbari- “It is another commendable and visionary step to boost indigenous partaking in defense manufacturing.” Mr. Tribhuvan Darbari appreciates the initiatives of the government.” Mr. Tribhuvan Darbari says that every announcement one after another shows the government’s perseverance towards its goal of making India self-reliant.”
The procurement order of defence equipment for an approximate cost of Rs 8,722.38 crore, includes 106 basic trainer aircraft for the Indian Air Force (IAF). The initiative will strengthen the armed forces by relying on indigenous capability to take forward the initiative on ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’.
In its meeting held under the Chairmanship of Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, the DAC approved the capital acquisitions of various platforms and equipment required by the Indian Armed Forces. 70 Basic Trainer Aircraft will be acquired from HAL and balance 36 after the operationalization of HTT-40 fleet in IAF.
The DAC also plans to acquire 125 mm APFSDS (Armour Piercing Fin Stabilized Discarding Sabot) ammunition for the Indian Army as a ‘Design and Development Case’. The ammunition being procured will have a 70 percent indigenous content. In addition to that, the DAC has also approved the procurement of an upgraded version of Super Rapid Gun Mount (SRGM).
Mr. Tribhuvan Darbari further says that such initiatives will open new avenues of opportunities for indigenous defence manufacturers and the decision came just days after Hon’ble Defence Minister Shri Rajnath Singh announced that import of 101 types of military equipment has been banned to push for ‘Make in India’. These steps are big and will have a substantial impact on the future of defence manufacturing sector of India. These steps will play a crucial role in the success of ‘Aatm Nirbhar Bharat’ and ‘Make In India’.
